Three hundred years before the birth of Christ Euclid of Alexandria composed Elements. Since then it is considered the most popular book on any science. It has revolutionized the study of Geometry. In this book Euclid introduced the method of axioms, which means assuming certain statements to be true without proving them (which is in Latin a priori knowledge). To formulate his geometry Euclid proposed five axioms:
- If there are two points on a plane, there`s one straight line that joins them.
- A straight line can be prolonged to infinity.
- A circle can be drawn if it`s center and radius is known.
- All right angles are equal.
- If a straight line falling on two straight lines makes the interior angles on the same side less than two right angles, the two straight lines, if produced indefinitely, meet on the side on which the angles are less than the two right angles.
